Holland Taylor cast as Matthew McConaughey’s mom in new Apple TV+ comedy

Holland Taylor has joined the cast of the Apple TV+ comedy that will reunite 'True Detective' Season 1 co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

The as-yet-untitled, 10-episode, 1/2 hr. comedy series -- originally announced in 2023 -will see Taylor play Ma Mac, Matthew’s mother. Per the official logline, “Matthew and Woody’s friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.”  

McConaughey and Harrelson will executive produce the series alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television as well as Bill Bost and Jeremy Plager. The comedy will be produced for Apple TV+ by Skydance Television, marking the latest collaboration between the two companies.

Taylor starred as Cybil Richards on the Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show" and has also starred on Netflix’s “The Chair” and “Hollywood” as well as CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.”
