ABC has ordered a new sitcom starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. According to multiple reports (including Deadline and Variety) Allen and Dennings will team up in a new comedy titled “Shifting Gears.”
The pilot for Shifting Gears was announced in March, but the show was just officially green-lit. Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully — who were originally announced as writers and executive producers on “Shifting Gears" — have since exited the series, but will be credited as executive producers on the pilot episode. The search is now on for a new showrunner.
Shifting Gears is said to revolve around Allen, a widower who runs a classic car workshop, and his estranged daughter, Dennings who shows up with her own teenage children. A network synopsis said the show follows Matt (Allen), "the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt's estranged daughter (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins."
Veteran actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell is also cast on the showas Stitch, with Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. Allen serves as an executive producer in the series along with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina and John Pasquin.
