Rage Against the Machine have split for a third time, announcing they will no longer play live and have canceled its upcoming concert tour. The band previously first broke up in 2000 after frontman Zack de la Rocha left the band, with the remaining members going on to form Audioslave with Chris Cornell. RATM eventually reunited in 2007, before going on indefinite hiatus in 2011.

Drummer Brad Wilk announced the news on Instagram: "I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the canceled RATM shows. I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. So while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…" Wilk provided no reason for the breakup of the band.

Rage Against the Machine members Wilk, de la Rocha, Tim Commerford and Tom Morello announced a worldwide tour that was set to take place in 2022, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group played a handful of shows in July / August 2022, but canceled the remaining shows after de la Rocha tore his Achilles tendon.

RATM was formed in 1991, comprised of Morello, Wik, Commerford and de la Rocha. The band, perhaps most famous for the songs "Sleep Now in the Fire," "Know Your Enemy" and "Killing in the Name," have earned two Grammy Awards through the years.
