Scotty McCreery was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry by Opry member Garth Brooks, who surprised McCreery onstage during his spotlight artist performance at the Opry Country Christmas show over the weekend. The Opry posted the news on social media: "BREAKING: @garthbrooks has just invited @scottymccreery to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry! đ"
Video clips show Garth walking onto the stage handing McCreery a wrapped gift, saying: âMerry Christmas. This is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry... We would love to invite you to be the newest member of the Opry.â
McCreery replied: âHoly cow. Yes, I would love to. I grew up listening to your records Garth and youâre a part of what made me want to do this for a living and I didnât think that dream would become a reality, but it is because of all of yâall sitting in this house tonight. God bless yâall ... When I got started doing this people asked, âwhat are your goals,' and Iâd say âone day Iâd like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.ââÂ
Opry Executive Producer Dan Rogers shared: âWeâre thrilled to extend this much-anticipated invitation to our friend Scotty. Whether heâs on the Opry performing his hits, putting his spin on some old favorites during a performance on one of our Opry Country Classics shows, or offering a holiday set as he did tonight, Scotty consistently delivers and is always at home on the Opry stage. Itâll be exciting to hear the words âScotty McCreery, youâre a member of the Grand Ole Opry!â in the early days of 2024.â
McCreeryâs Grand Ole Opry induction date has yet-to-be announced, but will be revealed in the coming weeks.
