Warner Brothers Birds of Prey had a disappointing opening weekend. The film is on track to make only $33.5 million this weekend, much lower than anticipated. Previous estimates placed the DC extended universe flick within the $50 million to $55 million range, with Warner Bros. projecting a $45 million opening.
Birds of Prey reportedly cost $80 million to make,, so the rocky opening falls well below expectations. Birds of Prey marks the eighth entry in the DCEU. Directed by Cathy Yan, the film finds Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the antiheroine she portrayed in 2016's Suicide Squad.
