Tim Burton‘s live-action reboot of "Dumbo" earned $45 million in its debut weekend, coming in below the $50 million mark that early predictions expected. For a Disney project. Dumbo now sits toward the bottom of the Disney live-action films, well below The Jungle Book($103 million), Alice In Wonderland ($116 million), and Beauty and the Beast($174 million). After this weekend, the film’s worldwide total is $116 million, $71 million coming from overseas.
Meanwhile, Jordan Peele's Us garnered another $33 million, down 52% from its premiere weekend, bringing its domestic total to $128 million on a $20 million budget. In it's fourth week, Captain Marvel ended the weekend with another $20.5 million, its domestic total soaring to $353 million. Worldwide, Captain Marvel has earnedt $990 million.
The biggest disappointment of the weekend goes to The Beach Bum starring Matthew McConaughey. The film earned just $1.8 million it's opening weekend, which is the lowest in McConaughey’s career for a movie playing on 1,000 screens.
