Actor Luke Perry has been hospitalized in California after suffering a “massive stroke,” according to reports. Paramedics were called to the actor’s home in Sherman Oaks, Calif., on Wednesday at 9:40 a.m. to treat someone suffering a stroke.
A spokesperson for the actor, 52, said, “Mr. Perry is currently under observation at the hospital,” but provided no further details. On Thursday afternoon, TMZ reported that a Perry family source said the star had been put in a medically induced coma. However, Perry’s rep said that is untrue and that the actor is currently "under observation."
Perry first rose to stardom in the ’90s on Beverly Hills, 90210 portraying Dylan McKay. He currently stars as Archie’s (KJ Apa) dad, Fred Andrews, on the CW show Riverdale.
Well wishes for Perry popped up on social media immediately after news broke. Shannen Doherty, who co-starred with Perry on 90210, shared a throwback of them hugging on the show, and fellow co-star Ian Ziering also posted a photo with Perry saying "No words can express what my heart feels hearing today's shocking news. Let us all say a prayer for his speedy recovery."
